🛡️ WarCrown Linux Installation Guide (Lutris)

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a working guide to get WarCrown up and running on Linux via Lutris. I’m no expert—just used a bit of trial and error alongside some AI troubleshooting—but this should save you some headaches.

Note: The launcher currently has a slight visual glitch, but it remains fully functional! 🐧

1. Initial Setup
Method: Select "Install a Windows game from an executable" in Lutris.

Executable: Point it to the WarCrown Installer downloaded from the official website.

Runner: Set to GE-Proton10-34 under Runner Options.

2. Required Configuration & DLLs
Before launching, you need to configure a few dependencies to ensure the game initializes properly:

DLL Overrides (Runner Options):

Key: quartz.dll | Value: n,b

Winetricks: Open Winetricks for the prefix and install the following packages:

vcrun2022

dotnetdesktop8

3. Optional: DirectX 11 Fix (If the game won't start)
⚠️ Note: I performed a clean second install to replicate this process and found I didn't need these steps the second time around. Your system mileage may vary, but if the game refuses to launch, try this:

File Rename: Go to your game folder and rename d3d12.dll to d3d12.dll.bak.

Warning: You will likely need to redo this step if the game updates or you run a file integrity check. (At some point I just started deleting it when it returned.)

Config Edit: Navigate to the _classic_ folder, open config.wtf, and add the following line:
SET gxAPI "D3D11"

Environment Variable (System Options -> Game Execution):

Key: VKD3D_CONFIG | Value: no_d3d12

🔍 Known Issues & Future Tweaks
Launcher Glitches: I previously posted a fix on Discord involving dotnet48 which I believe completely resolved the launcher's visual bugs. Unfortunately, that Discord info was lost. I am currently digging back into Winetricks to figure out exactly what that update was and will update this post once confirmed!

Hope this helps some fellow Linux gamers out there! This is not perfect I am sure there are some other changes I had done to the VKD3D_CONFIG since I first wrote this. Mine runs on DX12 so not sure where the change took place. Feel free to reply or message me if you hit a wall.
